The Sharp Deck · Member Pledge
A commitment to
the work.

This program works only when every member holds themselves and each other to the same standard. The pledge below is that standard — stated plainly, signed once, held always.

"As a member of The Sharp Deck, I understand that my growth as a presenter depends not just on my own effort, but on the quality of the cohort I contribute to. I make the following commitments — to myself, and to every person in this room."
01
I will show up prepared. I will not deliver a presentation that is a first draft. I will not arrive at a session without knowing my role. Showing up unprepared is not a personal failure — it is a cost I impose on everyone else.
02
I will give honest feedback. When I evaluate a peer, I will tell them what they actually need to hear — not what is comfortable to say. Vague encouragement helps no one. I will be specific, I will be fair, and I will be direct.
03
I will receive feedback without defensiveness. I joined this program to improve. When someone gives me honest critique, I will listen, ask questions, and act on it — not explain why they are wrong.
04
I will bring real challenges. I will use actual professional presentations — not safe, low-stakes topics. This is a practice environment, not a performance. I cannot improve on things I do not practice.
05
I will take meeting roles seriously. Every role in a session — evaluator, timekeeper, scribe — is a leadership practice opportunity. I will prepare for them with the same rigor as my presentations.
06
I will contribute to the cohort's growth. As I advance, I will mentor newer members. I will give my evaluations, attend consistently, and hold the standard of the room — because a strong cohort produces strong presenters.
07
I will notify the Facilitator in advance. If I cannot attend or fulfill a role, I will give at least 24 hours notice — not an apology after the fact. My absence affects the session; I own that.
08
I will finish what I start. I will complete my track. Progress is incremental and sometimes uncomfortable. I will not abandon the program when it gets difficult — that is precisely when it is working.

By signing below, I confirm that I have read this pledge, I understand what is expected of me as a Sharp Deck member, and I commit to upholding these standards for the duration of my participation in the program.
